Hi there! 👋
Welcome to my corner of the internet. If you’re reading this, you’re probably wondering what this site is and why it exists. Let me tell you.
Who am I?
I’m David Villarreal, a 20-year-old with a passion for computing and, above all, for programming. For the past 5 years I’ve been building plugins for Minecraft servers — which, in case you don’t know what those are, basically means adding new things to servers: game modes, new features, and so on.
Getting a bit more technical, I’ve built those plugins with Java and Kotlin, and I’ve used both relational databases such as MySQL and PostgreSQL and non-relational ones such as MongoDB. Some of those plugins needed to stay in sync across different servers, and for that I’ve used Redis.
Why this blog?
I’m currently studying a Higher National Diploma in Web Application Development, and as part of it I have to complete a final-year project along with its written report.
Now, here comes the fun part: when I started thinking about writing that report, the idea of opening Word and typing out a traditional document was… well, let’s say it didn’t exactly motivate me 😁.
So I thought: “Why not do it in a more ‘dynamic’ way?”
Will I still have to produce a Word document for the report anyway? Yes — but we’ll talk about that once the project is finished.
What will you find here?
Blog
In the Blog section I’ll be sharing:
- Discoveries: interesting things I learn about programming and computing.
- Personal projects: small (or large) projects I’m working on.
And whatever else comes up along the way.
The technology behind it
This site is built with Astro, a modern framework for creating fast, optimised websites. I chose Astro because:
- It’s a perfect fit for static content like blogs
- It offers exceptional performance
- It lets me write in Markdown (far more comfortable than Word 😉)
- It’s a modern technology I wanted to learn
What’s next?
This is only the beginning. I’ll keep updating both the final-year project section and the blog with new content. If you’re into web development, continuous learning, or you simply want to follow my progress, you’re in the right place!
Thanks for stopping by.
David Villarreal
